What do horses and Newfoundlands have in common?

Updated: Nov 30

They can both be groomed with a curry comb!

It might look intimidating, but a curry comb is one of my favorite tricks to getting that thick undercoat shed out properly. Much like a rake comb, this grooming essential brushes out the down like hair of the undercoat, leaving the lustrous top coat.

I like to dry brush them with the curry comb and afterwards I like to apply a coat slicking agent to help lock in moisture and reduce damage to the hair shaft.

I particularly use this grooming tool in the heat of their coat blowing. Code blowing typically happens going into spring and going into winter. Always remember Newfoundlands require maintenance grooming.

I generally like to do a maintenance brushing once a week as a rule of thumb. If the coat has dirt or debris I brush as accordingly.
