When it comes to grooming, there are few more important things vital to your Newfs health and quality of life! Carrying out proper grooming helps to ensure healthy mind and body.

Firstly, keeping your Newfs coat maintained will help with their skin biome and overall health.

(less chance of yeast infections, hot spots etc...)

In addition to that, it is enrichment for them.

They are such intelligent beings. They love to be pampered and doted upon. Brushing helps that bond they love to nurture with their people.

Now, we're into the thick of it!

Newfs truly blow their coats twice a year.

Typically, this happens in the spring and fall.

This s will be the most taxing time in your routine.

The undercoat "blows" out and will need to be brushed daily, until it completely sheds out. Happens for 1-2 weeks some dogs shed out better than others and that time and shed experience varies from dog to dog. You will have trash bags full of hair, usually 1 & 1/2 or so.

In between that time, bi- weekly brushing is how I best keep my pack. I brush, de-mat and detangle as needed. This is especially important if you live an active, outdoor lifestyle such as ourselves.

Here are a few photos of some of the brushes I use as well as nail trimmers. I suggest bypass, extra large nail trimmers for the job. I only bathe when needed and always take time to dry ears out with a cotton cloth when I do. I bathe my dogs in mane and tail and I use coconut oil as a coat finisher after a bath and blow out. They usually get two big ones a year after their sheds. Outside of that they swim and have a blast all summer long and brushing helps keep them clean and mat free! I usually run a bit of coconut oil and a brush though their coats after a swim in the creek or

being in the sand! Always reach out if you have any questions about Newfie maintenance!
